What Are Herbal Remedies?
Herbal remedies have been defined as dietary supplements and herbal medicine, which fall under the broad umbrella of traditional medicine. Many cultures have used herbal remedies and various parts of plants to support all systems of the body.
Herbal remedies have been used for centuries in many cultures to support health ailments and increase well-being.
Herbalism is based on supporting the connections between the body, the mind, and the outside world. The philosophy behind herbal remedies and herbalism is that your body possesses its own internal wisdom to balance itself using natural tools like plant remedies. Getting more herbs into your life is easy with options like capsules, teas, and tinctures.
The Benefits of Herbal Remedies
Our CBH Energetics herbal remedies offer a natural and holistic approach to your health that includes nourishing and supporting your body’s own natural balancing processes. The principle behind herbal remedies is that they work on the whole body or particular organ systems, which may be the root cause of the problem you may be having.
For example, liver support and acne. Hormonal acne can stem from the liver, your body’s master detoxification organ. The liver has to take care of outside toxins as well as break down hormones like estrogen. Supporting the liver and gallbladder system may also support the skin in the Integumentary System.
How Do Herbal Remedies Work?
Plants carry their own powerful compounds, broken down into primary and secondary metabolites. Primary metabolites provide energy for the plant to thrive, and secondary metabolites are built-in protective chemicals that ward off insects and microbes that could harm the plant.
You have already used herbal remedies if you have tried:
-
- Echinacea for Colds and Winter Wellness
- Garlic for your Immune System or cholesterol support
- Phytoestrogens for hormone support
- St. John’s Wort for mood support
- Ginger or peppermint for nausea
Herbs are very potent plant allies. For instance, Aspirin originated from willow bark, which is known for its pain-relieving properties. On the flip side, if a person on anticoagulants uses too much aspirin, they may run into problems with blood clotting. Similarly, St. John’s Wort should not be mixed with certain antidepressants. This information is not meant to scare you but to show you how powerful herbs really are!
Mechanisms of Action
Many herbal remedies work by interacting with our bodies’ signaling systems, which are regulated by various chemical messengers. Certain herbs contain compounds that can mimic the action of these chemical messengers, triggering specific responses in the body. Others may block certain signals, preventing specific reactions from taking place.
Some of the same remedies can work to adjust a system or help that system adapt to something. These adaptive substances are called adaptogens. Adaptogens help many systems, including the Nervous System, Cardiovascular System, and the Immune System, adapt to the environment
There are hundreds of different herbs that can be used as remedies, each with its own unique set of benefits. They are combined based on properties, the energy of the plant, and synergism.
Three Positive Aspects of Herbal Remedies
-
- Empowerment. Learning and using the vast array of herbal options, from teas to tinctures, will motivate you to make choices that are personal and preventive.
-
- Prevention. This analysis from the BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine Journal noted that older individuals sought out herbal options to prevent future health issues.
-
- Accessibility. Purchasing herbal remedies is very easy and accessible. Even more accessible if you make some yourself! You are already gaining the benefits of plants when you steep herbal tea for yourself. This is the easiest and most cost-effective way to get started with herbs!
Herbs can be used internally, topically, and in your environment.
Internally: An example of this is chamomile. This plant contains compounds that can relax the muscles of the digestive tract, reducing cramping and discomfort. That’s why chamomile tea is so effective.
Topically: When you think of using herbs topically, you think of essential oils. Essential oils can be used topically for minor skin irritations and even mild acne. Have you ever tried an herbal-infused salve? This is another example of using herbs topically, as your skin is like a sponge!
Environment: Using herbs in your environment includes diffusing! That same chamomile essential oil can be put into a diffuser to calm your Nervous System. Many different essential oils clean your air, providing you with a less toxic home environment!
What Are Homeopathic Remedies?
Homeopathy is based on the Law of Similars. The theory is that when a substance in large doses causes certain symptoms, in small doses, it can “cure” these same symptoms.
If you are unaware of the practice of homeopathy, the preparations are noted as one of many earlier holistic practices that originated in the late 18th century from a German physician named Samuel Hahnemann. The word “homeopathy” comes from the Greek words “like” and “suffering.”
Fundamental Principles of Homeopathy
The practice of homeopathy is based on two fundamental principles
- Like Cures Like (Similia similibus curentur): This principle theorizes that a substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy person can also “cure” similar symptoms in a sick person. For example, if a healthy person experiences symptoms like runny nose and watery eyes after chopping onions, a homeopathic remedy prepared from onions may be used for patients with similar symptoms caused by a cold or allergies.
- Amount and Dilution: Homeopathy also relies on the principle of dilution. The more diluted a product is, the more powerful it becomes. Homeopathic remedies are prepared through a process of serial dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking). The aim here is to reduce the amount of the original substance to the minimum possible while retaining its therapeutic properties. This extreme dilution makes the remedies safe to use, with little to no risk of toxicity. Homeopathy is safe for children and the elderly.
Please note that CBH Energetics does not diagnose, treat, or cure any disease. If you suspect a health issue, we always recommend visiting a licensed healthcare practitioner.
How Homeopathic Remedies Are Made
Understanding these principles is essential to grasping how homeopathic remedies work. They are the bedrock upon which homeopathy stands, guiding how remedies are prepared and to be used. While both CBH Energetics Homeopathic and Herbal Remedies are based on certain “principles,” there is always room for modifications!
Homeopathic remedies may contain herbs, nosodes, sarcodes, and minerals prepared according to homeopathic standards and traditions.
Nosodes are made from inactivated products of microbes, plants, or mammal tissues.
Sarcodes are also made from mammal tissue. The difference between them is that nosodes are inactivated from a pathological state, whereas sarcodes are in a balanced state.
An example would be the remedy LYM Combination, which contains minute bits of:
-
- Anaplasma Phagocytophilum Nosode
- Bartonella Henselae Nosode
- Borrelia Burgdorferi Nosode
- Ehrlichia Nosode
- Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Nosode
- Morbillinum Meningococcus Nosode
- Hepatitis B Nosode.
Almost all of the above ingredients are also considered Lyme Coinfections.
A polychrest remedy is a multi-system remedy that is used for a variety of issues and emotions.
The Positive Aspects of Homeopathic Remedies
- Gentle. They are generally safe and non-toxic, making them a viable and gentle holistic remedy for both young babies and senior clients. You may see homeopathic remedies instead of herbal remedies if there are medication concerns or if someone is breastfeeding or is very sensitive. There are many homeopathic remedies that can be used alongside conventional treatments. It’s always wise to consult with your prescribing healthcare professional before combining treatments.
- Variety. Homeopathy can be used to support a variety of health worries, directly or indirectly. Perhaps you have a lingering cold and still decided to do a Full Scan hair and saliva test with us. If a remedy such as Sinus Tox balances, this would directly support the sinuses, whereas a remedy like Immune Support indirectly supports the common cold through the Immune System.
- Mind and body. These preparations can also support your emotional states, which can directly affect your Nervous System, Digestive System, Endocrine System, and even Immune System!
Some great examples are Flower Essences, which can support emotions in pets and people. They are taken just like any other homeopathic remedy! We will outline how to take all homeopathic remedies below, so please keep reading!
By addressing imbalances in your body before they manifest as health issues, homeopathy can contribute to your overall health and longevity.
The Difference Between Homeopathic and Herbal Remedies
Both of these remedies and traditions sound similar, don’t they? Both may use plants to create synergistic formulas and tinctures to signal and support the body when stressed. However, with herbal remedies, only plants are used including algae and fungi. Homeopathy uses plants as well as minerals (a great example is BioCell Salts!) and very small amounts of animal products.
How to Take Your CBH Energetics Homeopathic and Herbal Remedies
There are some subtle differences in how you take both CBH Energetics Homeopathic and Herbal Remedies. If you find that you are sensitive to supplements and other things, we will address that below. Booking a consultation with a practitioner is always helpful in this instance.
How to Take Your Herbal Remedies
Herbal remedies can be taken in a glass of water. Our founder, Samantha Stupak, takes hers before her homeopathic remedies. They can be taken on an empty stomach.
Our herbal remedy preparations come in tinctures and are also incorporated in nutritional supplements that may be in capsules.
Herbal tinctures are sometimes quite bitter! On the one hand, the bitterness of some formulas can stimulate digestion, but on the other hand, they can be hard to tolerate.
Here is how we generally suggest taking these:
- For adults: Place the amount of herbal tincture in water to dilute and drink the mixture. You can combine most herbs in one glass of water. This is convenient!
- For children: Place the recommended amount of herbal tincture in juice to dilute it and mask the taste. Drinking it this way makes it a lot easier for kids to take their remedies.
If you are using capsules, swallow them with water or juice. Some can be opened up and sprinkled on food, which is helpful for kids and adults who have difficulty swallowing.
Exceptions: Wild Oregano Oil and Wild Bear Garlic are in gel caps. Opening these and taking the contents without a gel cap may cause discomfort and irritation of the esophagus. These herbal remedies, which fall under our nutritional supplement category, must be intact for safety.
How to Take Your Homeopathic Remedies
Homeopathic remedies have traditionally been recommended to be taken away from food, drink, toothpaste, and mouth rinses. Newer philosophies state that you can take them closer to food or eat shortly after.
Your measured drops should be put under your tongue. This area has a lot of blood vessels that aid in quick absorption. Samatha and many of our staff take their homeopathic remedies just a few minutes after their herbal ones. It is okay to put each one under the tongue with a small time buffer between each.
Typically, the best time to take these is in the morning before your coffee or tea. However, you can also take them in the afternoon, evening, or just before bed.
Your instructions will be at the bottom of your report, just like this sample Full Scan Report.
What Remedies Can I Take Together?
Humans are busy, and we often struggle with consistency, especially when taking remedies and supplements! Making life easy and combining tasks can save time and brain power. Are there CBH remedies that can be combined for ease? Yes, mostly.
There will be notes to follow beside each remedy, and we’ll cover what to do with kids in just a moment! Let’s break this down.
Combining Herbal Remedies
Herbal remedies can be taken singly or together in a glass of water. In most instances, it’s fine to combine them. When you receive any report that includes a custom balanced regimen, the remedies will be listed at the bottom of the report.
Combining Homeopathic Remedies
As mentioned, homeopathic remedies are best taken under the tongue, one after the other, away from food, drink, toothpaste, or mouth rinse. You can put each one under the tongue and hold for about 20 seconds before the next remedy is added. Be careful not to touch the dropper to your teeth or tongue to avoid introducing bacteria into the remedy.
Key Points to Remember
- If you have trouble with this, pour a little warm water into a glass, add the homeopathic remedies, and drink.
- Don’t mix the homeopathic and botanical remedy tinctures in the same glass! Use a different glass. Ideally, leave 5‐10 minutes between taking your homeopathic and botanical remedy tinctures.
- Both under the tongue and in warm water are still effective.
It’s a simple process that dramatically increases the effectiveness of your remedies.
What About the Alcohol in My Remedies?
According to Physica Energetics (Dr. Robert Cass, Physica’s Founder, and Master Formulator, also teaches in our Bioenergetic Certification Course), there is about as much alcohol in their tinctures as in a ripe banana. Most companies use clean ethanol/organic cane alcohol because:
- It helps to keep the ingredients clear and free of bacteria and fungus.
- It carries the ingredients to its target area.
Many other companies use higher amounts of alcohol! If you are concerned about the amount, place any remedy in a very warm glass of water and let it sit. This will evaporate the small amount of alcohol.
Special Considerations: How to Give Homeopathic and Herbal Remedies to Kids
Many parents are concerned about the alcohol in tinctures when it comes to children and babies. Follow the instructions above to ensure proper use.
Depending on the children’s age, you may see either herbal remedies or homeopathic remedies on a Scan report. With herbal remedies, it may be best to place the herbs in juice to mask the bitter taste. Homeopathic remedies can be placed in water. They do not have the same bitter taste that herbal remedies do.
For infants, you will typically see homeopathic remedies only. Place the drops of any remedy on the soles of the feet for absorption. There is no need to place the remedy in the infant’s mouth!
Special Considerations: The Series Symptom Relief Kits
As we mentioned earlier, these homeopathic remedy kits are in a class of their own and are used differently than a typical tincture. They are designed to support your immune system by decreasing symptoms that may correlate to chronic infections.
An example is the EPST:SSR or the Epstein-Barr Series Symptom Relief Kit. This kit is used for the temporary relief of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) symptoms, including exhaustion, mucous congestion, and fatigue.
Regimens like these are generally taken for longer periods of time and require taking ALL of the remedies that balance within the report as it is a very specific regimen. SSR kits should not be taken by themselves. They typically come with Liposomal Vitamin C supplements along with Smart Silver to reduce detoxification symptoms or Herx reactions.
Special Considerations: What Do I Do if I Am Really Sensitive?
Some clients are sensitive to remedies and supplements, including homeopathy. If you find yourself in this category, here are some things to consider:
Apply Topically: Approach your regimen like an infant and place the homeopathic remedy or herbal remedy on your stomach or the bottoms of your feet for absorption.
Start Small & Adjust Dosage: You can begin with a minimal amount of drops, such as one drop. You don’t need to start with the full amount right away. Gradually increase the dosage as you become more comfortable. The exception would be any SSR Kit that you receive.
Special Considerations: What to Do if I Feel Worse? AKA the Herx Reaction.
While most of our clients sail through their regimen with minor to no detoxification reactions, there are times when individuals may experience a Herxheimer reaction (Herx).
Here’s what you need to know about this!
The Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction (JHR) is a short-term reaction to a die-off of microbes in the body. A JHR was first described in the late 1800s by Austrian dermatologist Adolf Jarish who saw an increase in skin reactions in his syphilis patients. Later, in the early 1900s, German dermatologist Karl Herxheimer also noted a similar reaction.
You may experience a JHR or Herx when undergoing:
- Heavy metal detox
- Parasite cleansing
- Fasting
- Candida cleansing
This reaction may consist of chills, fever, muscle aches, and rash and is thought to be caused by endotoxins released from the death of microorganisms. This has also been noted when spirochetes are killed in the body. Spirochetes are corkscrew-shaped organisms that include Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacteria related to Lyme disease.
How to mitigate these reactions:
- Focus on Drainage. Your body has numerous natural drainage pathways that work together to make sure your body is letting go of toxins. One of the most important is bowel movements!
- Try Dry Brushing. This increases circulation and clears off dead skin cells, opening up the skin’s pores. It also supports the Lymph System for toxin elimination.
- Run a Detox Bath: Epsom salts in a hot bath can help to relax tense and sore muscles and facilitate toxin release through the skin.
- Adjust Your Regimen: As we mentioned in the “What to Do if You Are Sensitive” section above, it is okay to taper your homeopathic and herbal remedies or increase your drainage remedies.
- Rest. Plan rest days when you start your balanced regimen. If you are starting an SSR Kit, plan to have some downtime in the second week if you can.
- Add binders. In some instances, adding binders can help. Binders are things that bind to toxins and help remove them from the body. Eating enough fiber is essential as soluble and non soluble fiber is great for good gut health and keeping your gut microbiome flourishing! Our blog post: What Are The Best Binders? will give you 11 types of toxin binders to choose from!
How Long Can I Take My Remedies?
Finding a regimen that improves your well-being and wanting to continue it long-term is a great outcome! Many remedies can be safely taken for extended periods.
Typically, a regimen is used for 4 – 6 weeks (2 months if it is an SSR Kit). Each tincture bottle contains approximately 1500 drops, which can last even longer for individuals with lower weight.
Regarding bioenergetic testing, what your body energetically needs changes as you move through the layers of stress. You can anticipate that your regimen may shift as well.
For optimal results, we advise taking CBH Energetics Homeopathic and Herbal Remedies for 30 (even 60 days in some instances) before testing again. A testing subscription takes the scheduling off of your hands and gives you one less thing to worry about.
What if My Scan Results Look Worse?
Getting started with Bioenergetic testing can sometimes feel like starting a renovation project! Have you ever wanted to touch up a coat of paint in a room only to find that you need to repair the plaster and add new baseboard trim?!
After retesting, you might notice increased stress levels in your system performance section. Why does this happen? Think of it as peeling back layers of an onion. The initial scan shows what your energetic body needs at that moment.
Perhaps your test revealed only Lymph and Digestive stress. You note that you have been constipated, so you order your balancing regimen, and you decide to increase hydration and fiber. When you retest, you see MORE systems in the yellow!
It looks like your stress has increased! What happened?
Increasing the flow in those two drainage pathways, the Lymph and the Digestive System, also increased the flow or workings of other systems.
This may lead to increased stress in the Integumentary System or Cellular Metabolism.
Now that lymph fluid is flowing better, toxins may have an easier time reaching the skin’s surface. This may transfer or increase stress in the skin point of the Integumentary system, along with continued stress in the Lymph System, as the body works toward detox and balance.
This increased flow of Lymph allows the cells more freedom to release waste products. As this happens, you may see more cellular stress.
There are multiple reasons for your report potentially looking worse with a retest. Sometimes, the body does look and feel a little worse before moving to a more balanced state. Take note of any subtle shifts you see in how you feel, how you are sleeping, and how you feel. Just the simple act of changing your diet can bring on physical and even emotional stress.
