With all the processed and refined foods found in our grocery stores today, it’s no wonder that numerous people are having stomach and intestinal issues. Some of these issue could involve bloating, cramping, constipation, diarrhea, and indigestion. If you are one of these individuals, there is a way to turn it around. Dr. Jeff Bland developed the 4R Program to improve gastrointestinal health. The four steps do not need to be completed one at a time; all four steps can be done simultaneously.
Step 1: Remove
– eat foods that don’t contain toxins
– avoid caffeine and alcohol
– avoid foods that are sensitive to your body or cause reactions
– rid any infections that may be lingering in the gut, such as unhealthy bacteria, parasites, or yeast
Step 2: Replace
– provide the stomach acid that is missing from the gut
– provide the digestive enzymes that are missing from the gut
– stomach acid and digestive enzymes help in the early stages of digestion, which improves are overall digestion process and allows our bodies to absorb more nutrients
Step 3: Reinoculate
– good bacteria and bad bacteria compete for space in the gut, we want to the good bacteria to conquer the bad bacteria and parasites
– restore the good bacteria (probiotics) to create a healthy balance in the gut
Step 4: Repair
– when the stomach wall and lining are damaged, it allows bits of foods to enter into the bloodstream, this is what’s known as a “leaky gut”
– the stomach wall and lining need to be regenerated with proper nutrients, particularly amino acids and specific herbs
Once the health of the gastrointestinal system is restored, it is important to maintain a healthy diet and to keep the digestive system moving. Eating plenty of fiber and drinking at least eight glasses of water per day will help in this process.
