Detoxification: Achieving Better Health

January brings a new year for us all and resolutions for many. Most New Year’s resolutions focus on physical health: losing weight, exercising more, and eating better. But before you get too engrossed in the gym and before you load your refrigerator with a bounty of healthful foods, let’s take a glimpse at the current condition of our bodies.
As we become motivated to lose our excess weight, what many people don’t know is that something is holding us up and making it extra challenging to lose those unwanted pounds. Those little culprits are toxins: mold, bacteria, viruses, parasites, chemicals, and metals. Toxins can enter our bodies through consumption (food, beverages, prescription drugs, etc.) as well as the air we breath and other inhalants. Stress, although not a direct source for obtaining toxins, can create an environment in our bodies for toxins to thrive. Our bodies, being amazing as they are, are built to filter out toxins. But often times we overload our bodies and much like a machine, when we are overloaded we cannot keep up. When this happens, the excess toxins get distributed to our fatty tissues and settle in. This then effects the body’s ability to metabolize properly. To get our metabolism functioning at its best we need to get those toxins out with a proper detox. Proper detoxification will cleanse the body by opening the channels for elimination, enabling it to rid the body of its toxicity. With the toxins out, a healthy diet, moderate exercise, and good water intake, weight loss and better health can be achieved.

Pets can detox too!
Just like their human companions, pets can also carry an excess amount of toxins in their bodies. These toxic loads can cause weight issues and lead to various health problems such as skin irritation, ear infections, and gastrointestinal issues. For small-sized pets (cats, small dogs, etc.) these toxinsquickly build up as their small bodies are unable to filter the same amount of toxins as their owners’ bodies.
As animal owners, it is important for us to be aware of how our pets are feeling as they cannot speak for themselves. Our pets deserve to feel their best. A proper detox can be the first step for a healthy, vibrant life for both you and your pet.
