The Effects of Too Much Estrogen and What to Do About It!

Estrogen, while thought of as a female hormone, can effect both men and women. If you experience any of the following issues, you may be suffering from high estrogen levels.

Signs of Excess Estrogen in the Body
– weight gain (esp. in the hips and thighs)
– water retention
– bloating
– mood swings
– headaches
– painful and swelling breast
– low libido
– fatigue
– poor memory
– sleep issues
***For women, these issues are commonly amplified during the menstrual cycle

What Too Much Estrogen Can Eventually Lead To
When high estrogen levels are not address, it can sometimes lead to:
– low thyroid
– autoimmune issues
– chronic fatigue

What Causes Excess Estrogen?
Some individuals bodies naturally produce excess estrogen. However, often times, excess estrogen occurs due to the foods we eat, and what our foods and/or beverages are contained in or cooked in. Making some minor changes can significantly lower estrogen levels.

What to Avoid
– soy
-sugar
– carbs (reduce carbs)
– conventional meats
– conventional dairy
– non-stick pots and pans
– plastics (avoid plastics in regards to food & beverages)

What to Do
– go organic
– consume cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, kale)
– increase fiber (avocado, berries, coconut, figs, artichokes, peas, Brussel sprouts, black beans, chick peas, lentils, nuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds)
– increase good fats (coconut, avocado, wild-caught fish) and protein
– consume green tea
– supplement with magnesium and/or vitamin E
– supplement with milk thistle and/or dandelion
– exercise
